Overgrown Hedge Transformation in the High Peak

Reshaping a neglected boundary hedge back to a clean, healthy line

Location High Peak, Derbyshire
Completed August 2026
Service Hedge Cutting
Scope Hard reduction and reshape of an overgrown boundary hedge

The Brief

A garden boundary in the High Peak had been left to its own devices for a few seasons and lost its shape completely. The hedge had grown tall and wide, crowding the gate and pushing out over the path, and it was starting to shade the border beneath it. The owner wanted it brought firmly back under control and reshaped to a clean, sensible line, without stressing the plant, and set up so it would be easy to keep tidy in future.

What We Did

Our work included:

  • Assessed the hedge: Checked the type and condition of the hedge and the growth it could safely take, and confirmed there were no active nests before starting any cutting.
  • Carried out a hard reduction: Reduced the height and width in stages, taking the overgrown growth back to a healthy framework the hedge can regrow from cleanly.
  • Reshaped to a clean line: Worked the faces and top back to a crisp, even shape, opening up the gate and the path again and letting light back onto the border.
  • Worked carefully around the boundary: Cut back tidily around the gate pillar, fence and walls so nothing was left ragged or damaged.
  • Cleared every clipping: Collected all the arisings, chipped what we could and took it away, leaving nothing for the owner to deal with.
  • Left a simple plan: Talked the owner through a straightforward routine of one or two trims a year to keep the hedge dense, healthy and the size they want.

The Result

A neglected, overgrown boundary brought back to a crisp, healthy line. The hedge is back in shape, the gate and path are clear again, and light is reaching the border once more. Because the reduction was done in a considered way, the hedge has a sound framework to thicken back up from, and a simple yearly routine will keep it looking sharp.

Job Duration: Approximately one day from assessment to the final clear-up.
